Tiffany Jackson is coming!

We are very pleased to announce that Tiffany Jackson will be joining us for the October 26th Forum. She is a New Havener who is making a living as a world-class soprano in opera, and is on the faculty of the Neighborhood Music School. Check out her brief bio on NMS's website here, and her more extensive one here.

I was an ECA dance student in high school...reflecting back, I recall few times when the discussion of careers and money came up...when I went off to college, it certainly came up.("How will a dance major do anything for your future?"). I think that the unique and inspiring component at ECA was the emphasis on ALL parts of the art form--the craft of dance; the history; the connections to feelings and society; etc...there was so much to explore and learn, that the issue of its monetary 'value' (only determined by any contemporary society) never came up...

So: if arts educators approach their classes from various angles, will students be so emerged in the art form that 'money' becomes an annoying after-thought, imposed by a modern capitalist society? And is this something that should only be discussed AFTER an individual has had some time to dive into his/her exploration of the art? Does the discussion of career/money cloud and damage the initial relationship building between a person and his/her art form?
